I. Overview
Putian University (PTU), a full-time undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2002, is located in Putian, a coastal city in southeast Fujian, the home of Mazu-"Goddess of Peace" at sea, and one of famous hometowns of overseas Chinese. PTU has been awarded some honorary titles, including the patriotism education base of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, the National Verdurization Model Unit, the Advanced Unit of National Fitness Activities, the Advanced Unit of Mental Health Education of the Chinese Psychological Association, the Civilized School of Fujian Province, the Safe Campus and the Garden-style Unit of Fujian Province.The universtiy covers 111.12 hectares (1666.8 mu) in the present campus area, 528,500 square meters in the building area, with the total value of approximately 255 million yuan in teaching and scientific research instruments and equipments, and 1.286 million copies in the collection of paper books. The new campus, planned to be 198 hectares (2970 mu) in area, is under construction and expected to be put into use by 2020.The university, with 48 undergraduate majors all together, consists of 16 colleges, which, specifically, are the College of Culture and Communication, the College of Foreign Languages, the College of Mathematics and Finance, the College of Environmental and Biological Engineering, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the College of Information Engineering, the College of Civil Engineering, the College of Art and Craft, the College of Music, the College of Physical Education, the College of Management, the College of Business, the College of Nursing, the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medical Technology, the Clinical Medical College and the College of Fundamental Education.
PTU has launched Government-Industry-Education-Research collaborations with more than 150 enterprises and institutions, such as the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Fujian Huajiacai Co., Ltd., etc., has steadily promoted international exchanges and cooperations with more than 20 foreign universities such as Dundee University in the United Kingdom and Massey University in New Zealand, and has jointly operated the major of Medical and Health Industry Management with the University of New Orleans in the United States. For the sake of the above, PTU stands among the top 500 international competitiveness rankings of Chinese universities, with the teachers and the students paying frequent visits and having their further study and research abroad.
II. Admission Category
1. Non-academic program (for language students): The duration of study may vary from six months to one year or two years. The academic term starts in either March or September each year and the admitted students will be classified according to the level of Chinese language. Non-academic students (or called language students) who conform to Putian University's regulations on student status and examination management will receive a certificate of study after graduation.
2. Degree program (for undergraduates): undergraduate programs generally with a duration of four years (some programs for 5 years), and the academic term starts in every September. Currently, 48 undergraduate programs at PTU are on offer for international students’ choice. Cultivation objective: To cultivate applied talents who are supposed to meet the needs of modern international society and develop in an all-round way. Language of instruction: Chinese or English language. Diploma awarded: Putian University diploma. Degree: Bachelor's degree.
III. Application Eligibility
1. Basic conditions
(1)Applicants with good moral character are expected to abide by Chinese laws and regulations, Putian University disciplines and school rules, and respect China's social morality and customs.
(2)Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens aged between 18 and 30, holding valid foreign ordinary passports, in good health, friendly to China, and with no criminal record abroad.
(3)Residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries must hold valid foreign passports and nationality certificates for more than four years (including four years). In the last four years (up to April 30 of the year of admission), the actual residences abroad should be in official record for more than two years. The full nine months is accordingly calculated on a one-year basis, subject to exit and entry signatures.
2. Other conditions
(1) Language students
High school education or above (equivalent to the level of sixth grade education in middle school) is required.
(2) Undergraduate students
①High school education level and above (equivalent to the sixth grade of secondary school education level), and good high school performance as well, are required;
②Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) level 4 or above is required.
IV. Application Time
1. Language students
Spring-term students should submit their applications before November 30, and autumn-term students before April 30.
2. Undergraduates: applications should be submitted before April 30 every year.
Note: If application is posterior to the registration deadline, please get contact with the admission teacher before submitting relevant materials.
V. Application Documents Required
1.Basic documents
(1) Application Form for foreigners wishing to study in Putian University;
(2) A photocopy of valid passport;
(3) Physical Exam Record for Foreigners;
(4) Learning plan (more than 400 words);
(5) Financial Support Guarantee Statement;
(6) Certificate of No Criminal Conviction.
2.Other materials
(1)Language students: a photocopy of high school diploma;
(2)Undergraduates:
① Photocopies of high school diploma and certificate of high school performance;
② Photocopies of HSK certificates;
③ Letters of recommendation ( one letter at least ).
Note: The notarization of the copies above is an obligation. In addition, the notarized English and Chinese translation versions of the above materials are both required if the materials are complete in other language than English. Documents are not to be returned after submission, so please make copies for your own reservs if needed.
VI. How to submit

VII. Admission and Registration
1.Qualification Verification: The application for admission is to be verified after the reception of one’s application form, and the results of the verification are posted in the “Study in Putian University” section on our website (//www.huangweishengzhubao.com/) as soon as possible. After the confirmation of the admission list, the “Notice of Admission” and “Application Form for Visa for International Students to China” are sent out (JW202). It takes us at least eight weeks from receiving one’s application forms to sending out the letter of admission.
2.The process of obtaining visas to China: The applicants are expected to apply for visas to China at Chinese embassies and consulates abroad with passports, photographs, records of physical examination of foreigners, admission notice and JW202 form. It is generally recommended to apply for study visas (X1 visa, which is under request to be replaced by the residence permit within 30 days after entry. )
3. Registration: Please make ready the original certificates such as the passport, the admission notice, JW202 form and so on, and register at the Academic Affairs Department of Putian University at the time specified in the admission notice. In order to avoid the trouble caused by the expiration of the visa, please register at PTU as soon as possible after arrival in China. Those who can’t register on the stipulated dates due to special circumstances are expected to get contact with us in advance to ask for permission to postpone the admission for up to two weeks. Those who fail to apply for delay or whose delay is overdue will be disqualified from enrollment except for legitimate reasons such as force majeure.
4. Expense payment: tuition and accommodation fees to be paid after arrival.
VIII. Insurance
All students coming to study in China are under obligation to buy sufficient insurance, which, covering their study time, should include accident insurance and medical insurance at least, and the purchase of which is an obligation before or after arrival in China. At the time of registration, students are required to submit insurance policies including accident and medical insurance issued by insurance companies (or other relevant institutions) in Chinese or English language. Those without the medical insurance policies required are unqulified for the registration formalities.
IX.Scholarship
PTU offers two types of scholarships for language and undergraduate students who study for one year or more:
1.Government Scholarship
Those who meet the requirements concerned are entitled to application for scholarships for international students by Fujian Provincial Government.
2.Putian University International Student Scholarship
PTU sets up its own scholarships, the candidates for which are selected according to the assessment of their achievements and other materials once a year, and the upmost of which is called the full scholarship, with tuition fee for one year, RMB 1,300 for accommodation, RMB 400 for registration, RMB 800 for medical insurance and RMB 10,000 for subsistence allowance all included.For example, the full scholarship for Chinese Language and Literature Major is: tuition fee 14000 yuan + accommodation fee 1300 yuan + registration fee 400 yuan + medical insurance 800 yuan + living allowance 10000 yuan, a total of 26500 yuan.
X. Campus culture and life
1. Campus culture
PTU, assisted by the associations, the Festival of University Students Culture and Art and sports meetings, regularly hosts a wide range of cultural events and sports activities for students, with focuses on the cultivation of Mazu Culture onto Campus, Elegant Art onto Campus, Excellent Traditional Culture onto Campus and other brand activities, involving the Campus Top Ten Singers Competition, Puxian Opera onto Campus, University Debate Competition, Healthy Life Culture Festival, League Group Tour Festival and a series of popular and refined activities, to enrich the "second classroom" for young students. There are 120 registered associations on campus at present, each organizing various activities inside and outside the campus, nearly 300 times a year, with more than 21,000 participants involved.
2.Dormitory conditions
Putian University is equipped with the dormitories of different specifications and conditions to meet the demands of international students, including two-person rooms and some four-person rooms, both well-equipped with independent bathrooms, shower rooms, Internet interface, air conditioners and so on.
3. Diet
Puxian cuisine, an important part of Chinese cuisinem tastes light, especially seafood. Eight canteens on campus for students’ choice provide a wide variety of cuisines rich and reasonable in nutrition, mainly including spicy pot, Muslim food, covered rice, fried chicken, stewed noodles, fish meal, health porridge, nourishing stew pot, fine household dishes and other meals.
4. Medical treatment
Medical and health care services of high-quality and convenience are provided for students in a clinic on campus, including diagnosis and treatment of common diseases, blood pressure monitoring, heart rate examination, wound sterilization and dressing change. In addition, the Emergency Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Putian University has opened a 24-hour green channel, with ambulances and related rescue equipment to dispatch at any time.

5. Traffic
All freshmen admitted by PTU are expected to get to Putian City by transferring to EMU after arriving in Fuzhou or Xiamen by plane, and be offered the first free ride by PTU at Putian Station. Please inform us of the number and date of the train in writing in advance.

XI. Study costs
1. Application fee: RMB 400 ( to be paid upon registration at PTU)
2. Tuition fee
Note: Half-year language students are under request to pay half a year’s tuition fee at the time of enrollment, while other international students the whole year’s tuition fee. Once the payment of the tuition fee is done, refund is not available except for force majeure. Any adjustment of the fee standard will be annouced on the the school website in time.
3.Accommodation fee
RMB 2600 per year for two-person rooms and RMB 1300 per year per person for four-person rooms.
4.Other related expenses
The specific cost, based on the actual price, includes teaching material fee, internship fee, and residence permit fee, etc.
XII. Others
1.Financial Support Guarantee Statement: When submitting application materials, all applicants are under request to submit “Financial Support Guarantee Statement” as well, the provision of which is to guarantee the cost of study, living and international travel to PTU. According to the local economic and living standards, the cost for a school year is about RMB 40,000.
2.School transfer and major transfer: With the consent of the original school and Putian University, international students from other schools are granted to their transfer into PTU. In addition, when qulified for the level of Chinese (HSK) 4, language students are granted to undergraduate majors.
3.Disposal of irregularities: The truthful provision of all the application materials is required, and falsification directly results in disqualification from enrollment.
